Prime properties ignore national slump

The average UK house price fell for the fourth straight month in February, but properties in London’s hotspots continue to soar.

TResearch by Nationwide Building Society that annual rate of house price inflation had sunk to its lowest level since November 2005, with prices falling 0.5% last month alone, and 1% in the last three months.

It seems incredible now but my first house cost me £12,000. It was a terraced house in Hornsey. I bought it in 1975 with a friend paying £6000 for my half.

Two years later I bought him out. I sold the house in 1984 for £114,000. This was a nice profit but not as amazing as it looks because I had spent £25,000 on repairs and renovations. I have just had a look on My Property Spy to see what houses in my old street had been selling for recently.

Pay less for your home insurance today

Are you being ripped off on your home insurance? Over a quarter (26%) of UK householders simply renew their home insurance policy without bothering to look for a cheaper quote, new research by Sainsbury’s Bank has found.

But of this group only 1% believed they had received the cheapest possible quote, meaning 8.47 million Brits are willing to overpay on their insurance.
